Now it is a fast growing area with plenty of development. In the eighteenth century it was the site of a gold mine. In the 2001 Census the parish population was 850. The derivation of the name is very simply as it is just a personal name plus the Old English hyll giving 'Pulloc's hill'. Part of the south facing slope of the chalk hill, on which Pulloxhill stands, has been purchased by the Parish Council as it has geological interest, being the site of a landslip, and it is also a rare ancient grassland site.
