About this campground

Clear Creek Campground is situated along the scenic Mountain Loop Highway in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, just 3.5 miles south of Darrington, Washington. The campground features 12 standard campsites nestled beneath a canopy of stately old-growth fir trees, with relatively sparse undergrowth that creates an open, communal camping atmosphere. Located near the confluence of Clear Creek and the Sauk River, the campground provides direct river access for fishing and non-motorized boating. The area showcases spectacular wildflower displays in July and August, including paintbrush, phlox, tiger lilies, aster, columbine, and lupine along the riverbanks.

During summer months, salmon and steelhead migrate upriver to spawn. The surrounding wilderness supports diverse wildlife including deer, black bears, and numerous bird species, as well as rare species like lynx and wolverines. Nearby hiking opportunities include the one-mile Frog Lake Nature Trail, which climbs steadily with views of Clear Creek before reaching the 1.5-acre Frog Lake, and the three-mile Old Sauk Trail that winds along the Sauk River among abundant wildlife and waterfowl. The campground provides access to 1,500 miles of trails throughout the national forest, ranging from easy forest paths to challenging mountain ascents. The location also offers proximity to North Cascades and Mount Rainier National Parks for extended exploration.
