About this campground
McKinley Trail Cabin is a 12-by-14 foot log cabin located just 80 yards from the Copper River Highway trailhead at Mile 21. The cabin sleeps up to six guests on wooden bunkbeds and is equipped with a table, wood stove for heat, and an outdoor pit toilet. Although easily accessible by vehicle and a short walk, the cabin is situated in a dense spruce and hemlock forest surrounded by steep mountainous terrain, making it an excellent base camp for exploring the Copper River Delta. The cabin provides year-round access to excellent recreation opportunities.

The McKinley Lake Trail leads hikers to Pipeline Lakes Trail at 1.25 miles and McKinley Lake at 2.25 miles, where remnants of the historic Lucky Strike Mine can be explored. Fishing for coho salmon is available in nearby Alaganik Slough, particularly in late August and September. The area supports abundant wildlife including Sitka black-tailed deer, moose, black and brown bears, and waterfowl. Visitors must bring their own drinking water, firewood, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cook stove, and all camping gear. The cabin has no running water, electricity, or cut firewood. All trash and food must be packed out. Maximum stay is seven consecutive days. Contact the Cordova Ranger District at (907) 424-7661 for current information.
