We also have a trailer dump station located at the south entrance to Guernsey State Park. This park provides the finest examples of Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) work in the Rocky Mountain area. Built by the CCC, the Guernsey Museum, the Castle and Brimmer Point are available to explore. The museum is perched on a high cliff, overlooking the water. The building itself is made of hand hewn timbers and hand forged iron. The roof is framed with the timbers and covered with split cedar shakes, and the floors were formed by pieces of smooth flagstone. The Castle, with its giant fireplace and winding steps, leads to an observation area for a spectacular view of the park. An extensive network of trails was originally planned and partially built during the operation of the CCC camps. Ever since that time hiking and trail use has been a major feature at Guernsey State Park. Approximately 14 miles of CCC trails have been restored on the park. Starting point for the trail system is at the Brimmer Point turnoff. The trail system consists of several loops which provide a variety of scenic views of the park, reservoir and the dam. Most of the trails are moderately physically demanding. The Oregon Trail was one of the primary routes used by the immigrants' westward migration across the plains from 1841 to 1869. Today, in many parts of Wyoming, remnants of The Oregon Trail can still be seen. Some of the best examples are the "ruts"; located just 1/2 mile south of the town of Guernsey, off Highway 26. Register Cliff located two miles southeast of Guernsey provided travelers with a "chalkboard" where they placed their names for those who followed. The landmark still remains much the way it looked to pioneers on wagon trains journeying West. As a result, the reservoir will experience a rapid decline in water levels starting July 6. The boat ramps will be unusable from approximately July 9 through July 26. Water levels at Guernsey Reservoir are expected to be suitable for boating again by the morning of July 27. The reservoir will continue to rise by about 3 feet per day and is anticipated to reach the normal operational level by July 29.   "We appreciate the understanding and patience of our visitors during this period. While water levels may be low, Guernsey State Park still offers a wide range of outdoor activities and beautiful scenery," stated Cassie Wells, superintendent of Guernsey State Park. "We encourage everyone to come out and experience everything our park offers."   Despite the low water levels, many recreational activities will still be available, including camping, hiking, and mountain biking. The playground and museum will remain open. The park also features some of the best examples of Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) work in the Rocky Mountain region.   Customers with affected reservations can modify their bookings online at reserve.wyoming.gov or by calling 877-996-7275.   Nearby boating opportunities are available at Glendo State Park, Hawk Springs State Recreation Area, Gray Rocks Reservoir, and other locations.   Boaters and recreationists are advised to take proper precautions in response to the changing river flows below Glendo and Guernsey Reservoirs and the rapid lowering and refilling of Guernsey Reservoir during this period.   For more information about Guernsey State Park, please call 307-836-2334 or visit wyoparks.wyo.gov/guernsey.   Figure 1: Image of Guernsey Reservoir during the annual silt run.    Contact: Cassie Wells, 307-836-2334; This email address is being protected from spambots. About this campground

Mountain bikes, boats and fishing poles are really just toys for grown-ups; so go be a kid again. After all, we've got plenty of trails for getting mud on those tires, including those in Guernsey, Buffalo Bill and Curt Gowdy State Parks. If making a splash is more your style, we've got space for water sports and fishing at our many reservoirs . Once you're done playing, soak those bones in the therapeutic mineral water at Hot Springs State Park. When bedtime rolls around, park the RV or roll out a sleeping bag; because at our overnight sites, all it takes to check in is a zip of the tent.
