About this campground

Boone Fork Campground is an unmaintained primitive camping area located in the Grandfather Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest. The campground requires hikers to walk in to reach the developed camping areas, offering a more remote and rustic experience for those seeking solitude in the forest. Despite being classified as a developed campground, all sites are primitive in nature with absolutely no amenities provided. Campers should come fully prepared as there are no electric hookups, no toilets of any kind, and no running water available on site. This is a true backcountry-style camping experience that requires self-sufficiency.

The campground is popular with mountain bikers exploring the nearby trail system and backpackers looking for a base camp in the area. The campground operates seasonally from March 31 through Labor Day and is available on a walk-up, first-come, first-served basis. A self-service fee station is located on site for payment. Due to the lack of amenities and hike-in access, this campground is best suited for experienced campers who are comfortable with primitive conditions and pack-in, pack-out camping practices.
