About this campground
The Bluff Camping Ground was first established as a Home Guard army base during World War II. It has since been expanded and now encompasses what was once a croquet club. The camping ground is harbourside and overlooks the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter. The seascape at night has been compared to a Van Gogh painting, except there's a constant passing parade of ships – freighters, fishing boats and, in season, our unique oyster boats.
