Backcountry Sweetwater Bay Chickee — Everglades National Park

This elevated platform campsite requires a free-standing tent and accommodates up to 12 campers across two sides of the structure. Located at marker 99 along the Wilderness Waterway, the chickee sits on the protected inland side of the islands rather than facing the Gulf. Reservations open just 24 hours before park entry, so campers must visit the ranger station early the day before their trip begins. The platform includes a portable toilet, though tidal conditions can affect its maintenance status. Fires are prohibited on the wooden structure despite being surrounded by water.
