About this campground
Samuel Buckland Campground offers 20 developed campsites set along the Carson River within Fort Churchill State Historic Park. Named after Samuel Buckland, who purchased the abandoned fort buildings in 1869 for $750 and established a Pony Express stop and ranch in the area, the campground provides a scenic and historic setting for camping. Each campsite is shaded by large cottonwood trees and includes a table, fire ring, and charcoal grill. The campground is suitable for travel trailers, motorhomes, and tents. While there are no hookups available, a dump station is conveniently located near the campground entrance. Vault toilets serve the camping area.

The park sits at 4,250 feet elevation along the Carson River, flanked by desert hills and the Pine Nut Range. Campers can explore the preserved ruins of Fort Churchill, Nevada's first and largest military outpost built in 1860, walk the 2.2-mile Nature Trail that connects to Buckland Station, and enjoy fishing, bird watching, and canoeing along the Carson River. The park provides a peaceful base for experiencing the rich history and natural beauty of Nevada's Carson River Valley.
