About this campground
Set in the Kunene Region’s sandy Upper Huab River Valley, Twyfelfontein Elephant Campsite opened in January 2023. Set well away from the noise and dust of passing traffic, this is a magical spot where you can experience fiery red sunsets on clear evenings, a carpet of bright stars in cloudless night skies and the night-time silence of the desert – broken only by the sound of barking geckos. With ample shaded areas so you can escape the heat of the day, the campsite has just a few pitches, each accommodating up to four vehicles to cater for individuals or groups travelling together. Each has a food-preparation slab, a sink, barbecue and firepit.

Firewood and drinking water can be purchased from reception. Pristine shower blocks – one per two pitches – have male and female toilets, showers and wash basins. Outside each one are sinks for washing any dusty clothes. And if you fancy the chance to see the rare and elusive desert-adapted elephants of northern Namibia (and who wouldn’t), you can book three-hour four-wheel drive safaris when you check in to the campsite.
