Superior Beach Camp located is 2\.5 hours north of the Twin Cities and perfectly positions you to discover all the wonders of the Twin Ports\. Just before my arrival date, it became apparent that the one area of it, the lookout, was unusable due to erosion. That, based on the photos, was where I thought I’d be able to pitch my tent, and is what drew me to book the site. \nDeciding to exercise the option to camp on the beach instead, I proceeded with my plans. \nI had, as a rather fit 66 year old woman, an extremely hard time with the padlock and excessive chain wrapped around the gate. I was able to squeeze myself around the end of the gate without unlocking it, to go ahead and walk in to take a look at the site before struggling anymore with the lock. The available camping area was a huge open field with a circular drive. Absolutely NO shade or protection from the elements. The lookout was beautiful, but unusable. The “path” and loft style *** ladder *** to the beach, which had fallen trees and very little area to set up camp without fearing that more erosion could happen at any time, posed a very dangerous situation, in my mind. Besides, getting all of my gear down the ladder and back up would not have been a wise option due to the possibility of injury. The description of this camp on Hipcamp seriously needs updating.
