He seems to be a very nice guy and so considerate. We loved the little, often humorous notes he left to explain the amenities of the house. And yes, the outhouse is probably the prettiest around ;) The place is remote and the nights very dark, perfect for stargazing. Still it is only a short drive to Big Bend. Nights out there can be cold but the bed is cozy and there's a little propane heater for emergencies. The kitchen is fully equipped and we made heavy use of it cooking dinners. The only reason I docked it from a full five stars in Cleanliness and Comfort is because.... well... it's in the desert. There are dust and bugs, but it's kinda part of the deal. And we were there in August. So ya know, hey, it's hot. The only way to shower is using a shower bag outside, but there is a nice privacy structure for them out back. I won't lie, I should have showered but uh, I didn't. It seemed like too much work and I wanted to build the anticipation for the return to a real shower when we got back home. \r\nIf all that's not your thing, probably don't go, because you won't be thrilled. Also, don't bring your dog if you go in the summer. It won't be fair to them. We made that mistake because we underestimated just how toasty it would be in there, especially for a fluffy pup.\r\n\r\nThat's the worst criticism I can offer about the Dome. \r\n\r\nIt was incredibly unique, with gorgeous views, and my boyfriend and I had an amazing time despite sweating our butts off. It was super easy to bring some simple ingredients and make vegan meals because the kitchen has everything you need. The outhouse is the loveliest outhouse I've ever seen in my life. In the afternoons, we saw a roadrunner and an adorable family of Gambel's quails hanging out in its shadow. The Amazon Alexa setup was a pleasant surprise that added an extra touch of comfort (and for me, luxury) to the trip. Marfa Public Radio has some nice desert-y tunes waiting to tingle your ears.\r\n\r\nIf you go into Terlingua and eat at El Posado Milagro, you'll get friendly fast service and the most technically flawless eggs you've ever eaten. Seriously though, poached or scrambled, perfect texture.
