Only like 40 miles from NYC. There is a good, large spot to set up camp and endless hiking and fire wood (if you are willing to gather your own). Very late at night or I guess early in the morning you can very remotely hear trucks on Rt 80 but otherwise feels remote. Make sure you have a higher clearance on vehicle bc it is a bit off-road with areas you can scrape the vehicle bottom. There are two nice benches near the fire pit, could use a table. We also drove 15 minutes to sit in on one of the free summer lectures at the observatory (April-Oct).
