Only like 40 miles from NYC. There is a good, large spot to set up camp and endless hiking and fire wood (if you are willing to gather your own). Very late at night or I guess early in the morning you can very remotely hear trucks on Rt 80 but otherwise feels remote. Make sure you have a higher clearance on vehicle bc it is a bit off-road with areas you can scrape the vehicle bottom. There are two nice benches near the fire pit, could use a table. If it weren’t for the distant barking from dogs at neighboring houses, you would think you were completely isolated. Easy to find. Full cell service. We chose the smaller campsite. We also drove 15 minutes to sit in on one of the free summer lectures at the observatory (April-Oct).
