Fantastic views across the countryside & many fine farm walks, with public footpaths from the farm gate\. Lots of wildlife including badgers, rabbits and foxes, buzzards and skylarks, clear skies, fields of wheat to roam\.\.\.There are 2 drinking water standpipes on the side of the field with fresh mains drinking water, and there is a composting loo in the orchard\. Our lovely heated shower block \(with hot water on demand\!\) is 2 mins walk back to the farmhouse\. There is a washing up area here and a fridge freezer for campers use\. Breakfasts and suppers are available if required\.At Huntstile you can help with feeding times for our pet piggies, goats and chickens if you ask a member of staff\.Our dogs and cats all like to be talked to – they might even take you for a walk if you are lucky\! There are woodlands, fields and footpaths to explore and a large trampoline in the garden for children’s use during the summer\.We are in a lovely spot with very little light pollution beautiful starry skies on clear nights\.Please note: There are no electrical hook\-ups or hard\-standing and no facilities for emptying chemical toilets at Huntstile\.This is a small, basic site \(field\) with only 10 pitches in two fields\. Shepherds Hut TrailerOur very own renovated bow\-topped Gypsy Caravan and a handmade Shepherds Hut Trailer\.These lovely examples of ‘life in the slow lane’ will give you a taste of how life used to be before computers and iPhones… There is a little log\-burner with a hob inside the caravan, along with a rather cosy double bed, weighing in at 4ft wide x max\.6ft long \(across the width of the bow\-top\)\. A little step is provided for getting into the bed and a certain degree of agility is necessary\. Killi’s has tea and coffee making facilities and some basic ‘no frills’ cooking utensils\. This accommodation is quite weeny and best suited to petite couples \(or a single person\) under 6ft\! Adjacent to Killi’s Haven is the Shepherds Hut Trailer, which has a table & chairs, mini fridge, electric heating, picnic gear, BBQ and a huge and very comfy 6ft wide bed, plus the facility for a bench to pull\-out into a 3ft bunk – sleeps up to 3 guests \(2\+1\)\. Killi’s Haven and the Shepherds Hut Trailer share an outside composting loo, which may sound a bit daunting but is really quite civilised and charming – as well as being far better for the environment than a chemical or mains loo – and an outside \(but private\) shower cubicle, all good character building stuff etc\. and the shower block is close by\.ECOTENTSAT PRESENT THE ECO TENTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR HIRE \(until further notice\)This is a beautiful part of the valley, set in a walker’s paradise with far reaching views and a natural spring that feeds the wildlife lake\.There are no vehicles, no electricity and no mains water\. Very relaxing, clean air, beautiful surroundings\.We have created a space for people to interact with nature at the minimal environmental impact\. We have water purification system for the spring water – although some may prefer to bring bottled water for drinking\* – composting loos and solar powered showers fed from the spring\. Eco friendly shampoo & soap only please\*\. There is a re\-cycling & composting area & a purpose built wood burning community bar\-b\-que\.Paddock available for horses with notice\.The ECOTENTS are available for hire throughout the summer period\. They have a solid wooden base & are equipped with cooking facilities, table, benches & camp beds\. It has an en\-suite shower room with toilet and hand The Apple Loft The Apple Loft is a large, first\-floor open\-plan studio apartment above the Cider House, with exposed elm beams, a large circular window and its own entrance, up a little set of wooden steps\. On the mezzanine \(below\) there is a king\-size bed and a single bed and the en\-suite shower room\. The mezzanine has a galleried side and steps down to a sitting room with day\-bed or bunks and a little kitchen area\.The Olde Wine CellarThe Olde Wine Cellar has its own entrance to the side of the house through a large elm doorway, with a picture window overlooking the private lane, now only accessible to Huntstile but once serving as the main road from Taunton to Bridgwater some 300 years ago\. This is a large and attractively furnished room, with a queen\-size 6ft wide bed and newly fitted wood\-burner\. There are lots of exposed wooden beans and shelving and the original steep cellar steps leading back up into the farmhouse\. A large en\-suite bathroom provides you with a roll topped bath for a deep, relaxing soak and there is an electric shower over\.SummerhouseOur sweet and very cosy Summerhouse log cabin has small but perfectly formed accommodation for two with a little en\-suite shower room\. We decide on our menus each morning to take advantage of the freshest and best choices, and, because of our limited menus it may not be possible for us to supply a substitution on the day\.HistoryThe farmhouse was built around 1430 when Henry VI the ‘child king,’ was on the throne in England\. We know there was a farm here in 1086 as Huntstile Farm is listed in the Domesday Book when it was farmed by a man known as ‘John the Usher’ …some people have suggested that this IS in fact our very own John, he just keeps on coming back\! The house has been added to constantly over the centuries with extensions and renovations\. Apart from the Victorian wing and recent necessary renovations, the house has been this way since the late 17th century\.We are reported to have our own lady ghost here, who is a young woman called Susanna – although neither John \(who was born here and has lived here all his life\) nor Lizzie have ever encountered her\! She must be very nice as the whole house has a happy & lovely feel about it\.We have found an assortment of artefacts over the years including shoes, buttons, buckles, coins and a traveller’s diary from 1668, now in the Taunton museum\. We also found a quill pen belonging to a Mr Danger, who farmed here in the1800’s\. Mr Danger was quite an innovative farmer for his time and, funnily enough, we are now using a very similar organic farm rotation to the one that he implemented back then\.There are lots of interesting original features around the farm\. We have the charming Seed Granary \(pictured below – photo by Dave Gould\) in the garden, which is a wooden store built for keeping the grain in, by perching it atop staddle stones to keep it out of reach from the mice\. The original kitchen is now our sitting room & the fireplace \(see below\) would have housed the range, you can see where the knives were sharpened & on the right there are signs of the use of a dog wheel for turning the spit\. The doorways are classically Tudor with their shallow arches and the original panelling in both the Panelled Room and the sitting room is Jacobean quarter\-cut oak\.The oak panelling originally came to Huntstile already second\-hand, it was bought here as part of one of the wives’ dowry, like winter insulation\. There are four different friezes in the Panelled Room upstairs in hte farmhouse and all friezes match in the sitting room\. The oak was quarter cut into the trunk to give the ‘flame’ effect in the grain\.We have a stone circle you can walk to up the track opposite the entrance to the farm\. It lies at the top of the hill on the end of the Thickets woodland\. The views across the surrounding countryside are truly stunning & it is a very peaceful, tranquil space\. The stone circle is home\-made \(by us\) from 600\-year\-old staddle stones & a large chunk of Mendip granite – not an ancient Celtic site, although it has been sanctified by the Druids & we have held hand\-fasting ceremonies there\. The stone circle lies approx ¾ km \(15\-20 minutes walk uphill\) from the farmhouse \. This is willow archway, positioned in the west of the circle and signifying the entrance for ceremonies\.DirectionsWe are about 10mins from junction 24 M5Exit M5 Junction 24Turn left at the roundabout towards North PethertonJust before you enter the village, turn right into Old Road, sign\-posted ‘Goathurst & Broomfield’Then take the 2nd right to ‘Huntstile & Goathurst’ \(note: – this 2nd turning is about 1\.5 miles up the road, its just a little white village ‘stick’ sign\)We are a mile from this 2nd turning on the right, and we are the only farm on this road\. Come down the narrow lane and pass two little stone cottages on your right and then a red brick house on the left, the big cow barn & farm buildings are in front of you\.
