> Human version: https://campertunity.com/listings/campgrounds/finchale-abbey-caravan-park-durham-county-durham

Finchale Abbey is a family run Touring Park that has been with the current owners since 1951\. Set in the heart of the beautiful County Durham countryside, the park lies within a meander of the River Wear and overlooks the ruins of a Benedictine Priory\. The peace and tranquillity of the Adult Only Touring Park encourages visitors from all over the world to return time and again and is one of the North East premier residential parks\. Well behaved pets are welcome onto the park both as visitors and residents, dogs must be kept on a lead while on the park\.Park InformationWe are an Adult Only park\.The ruins of Finchale have stood in the meander of the river Wear for hundreds of years and the surrounding scenery and picturesque sights and views make the caravan park, which overlooks the Abbey quite unique\.The park has 40 pitches for touring caravans supplied with electricity hook\-up points\. The plot plan shown below is designed to be used as a guide to help visitors choose their plots\.If you would like to select your plot we will try to accommodate you but we cannot guarantee your desired plot will be available especially at weekends and public holidays\. All plots are hard standing with space for awning and access to an electric hook\-up point\.Plots B1\-B3 are Serviced Site allowing direct access to mains water, grey water disposal and an electric hook\-up with 16amp supply\. These serviced sites have a different pitch fee per night\.We are pleased to announce that the park has been awarded four stars after an inspection on behalf of the Northumbria tourist\. The park is also a member of the British Holiday and Home Parks Association\.We have been awarded a Silver David Bellamy Conservation award in recognition that the park is managed in a responsible and sustainable way, meeting stringent criteria with regard to saving water and energy, recycling, eco\-friendly landscaping, promoting local transport and protecting wildlife and flowers\.To further develop the wildflowers and support the wildlife on our park we have developed a wildflower dog walking area\. As well as promoting wildlife we hope this area will become a favourite with dog walkers to enjoy a stroll and take in some lovely fresh country air although we’d like to encourage all of our dog owners to act responsibly, keep all dogs on a lead and clean up after their dogs and dispose of any mess accordingly in bins provided\. New for 2011 we’ve planted an orchard of apple trees adjacent to the dog walking area and will be adding some beehives over the coming months\.The park also has a development of fully residential Park Homes; please see our new Eco Village section for more information on the new homes\. The caravan park has an excellent toilet block, located on the touring park, it offer free hot showers, wc’s, washing up facilities available\. Razor sockets are provided if required, and hairdryers and hand dryers are available within the block\. There is also a disposal point on site for chemical toilet waste\.The gents shower and toilet block was fully refitted for the 2011 season to incorporate a purpose build disabled shower and w c area\. The ladies facilities have been redesigned for the 2012 season\.The park shop opens daily and provides a range of basic goods\. The shop also has a small cafe which sells a range of snacks\.Approximately ten minutes walk from the main site is Cocken Lodge driving range, here they have a private bar which patrons of the park are invited to use\.Although the park is quiet, there is still lots to do, from walking in the woods around the site and quiet strolls beside the river to visiting the local bar\.Fishing is very popular on the river and permits are available from the site shop the permit covers fishing along a two mile stretch of river bank\. In October 2004 the static park started a major redevelopment which will ultimately comprise of the removal of the current caravans and the introduction of fully serviced residential park homes\.December 2006 after the ground work for stages one and two of the development is complete\.Firstly, let us look at the history of the family at Finchale\. Mr\. and Mrs\. Welsh bought the Caravan Park in 1951\. They built the site up from small beginnings and when they retired in 1994 they handed over to Eric and Ann, two of their children, a thriving family business\. With changing times and a higher level of expectation from the clients of the park, Eric and Ann have set about to develop the park and bring it into the twenty\-first century\. Many changes have been implemented since the handover but the biggest part of the development is just about to take place\. At the moment the park has a license for twenty\-five residential caravans and ninety holiday homes\. At the beginning of 2003 we had a visit from the environmental officer who advised us to upgrade the park, put services in and as long as we followed his guidelines we could upgrade to an extra fifty residential plots in place of the ninety static vans\. The park is BH&HPA approved and will provide all of the comforts of home with mains services and LPG gas\. All homes will be built to a high standard with double glazing, central heating, fully fitted kitchen and bathrooms with carpets, curtains and even fully furnished\.There is a wide range of fixtures, fittings and furniture to choose from and all homes are built to individual specification\.There is a choice of two or three bedroom homes with the option of a study\. The main living area may be open plan or have separate dining and living areas\.These floor plans are only an example of what is available as plans are made to individual specifications\.The quiet nature of the park makes it a perfect choice for retired or semi\-retired folk, who are looking for a village lifestyle and strong community spirit and while children are not encouraged as residents on the park they will love to visit\.The park is BH&HPA approved and lodges provide all of the comforts of home with double\-glazing, central heating, fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms with carpets, curtains and all furnishings included in the price\. All homes are custom made to residents’ specifications although show homes are available to view and buy\. Homes range in size from 42’ x 20’ to 50’ x 20’ and prices start in the region of £120,000 but exact price will depend upon individual choices\. Lodge owners have the benefits and security of tenure afforded by the Mobile Homes Act 1983 Rent is payable at a rate of £184 per calendar month\.The rent includes:\-24 hour security including card access barrierwater ratesstreet lightinggas/electricity \(belowground\) maintenance including metermaintenance of sewerage systemsmaintenance of roadsLandscaping and grass cutting Gas and electricity will be metered with meters being read at an agreed interval and charges will be payable to the park shop\. Your family may take over your park home provided that they meet the aforementioned criteria\.The exterior of the homes have a wood effect finish supplied by 'EZEDECK\.' Using recycled materials and the latest thermoplastic technology you have the beautiful look of wood without the maintenance\!FishingTwo mile stretch of the river Wear, 1 mile either side of the Abbey, access above abbey is by the river bank and below abbey by a road way leading to various points of easy access to the river bank\.
