It’s a great spot for those who are local to Oklahoma and are looking for some adventure as well as those who are on a cross country road trip, traveling on the southern route and in need of a great place to stay.\r\n\r\nWe’d been communicating with the host, Burl, leading up to the trip and when we arrived he greeted us outside and showed us to our cabin. We were able to park right next to it which made for easy unloading and were delighted that he had the little electric stove already working to warm the space. (There was also a mini split above the bed for additional heat). The bed was super comfortable, the sheets soft and there was even a futon in there. Plenty of space in one cabin for two people and possibly even up to four. I was dying for a shower by the time we arrived having been on the road for several days and almost shrieked when I saw the cabin had running water and that it was HOT. It’s the little things, ya know?\r\n\r\nWe slept soundly and then in the morning, I went for a run. I ran up near the little town that used to be part of a reality tv show on CMT about a decade ago and then got the rest of my miles in on the country road that leads out to the highway. For most of the run I had the company of Burl’s pup, Moose. It was hillier than a I realized and felt worked and ready for coffee by the time we got back.\r\n\r\nBurl not only made us a cup of coffee in the restaurant on the property but also gave us a tour of the land. We jumped up in his big truck and he then took us down to the largest bison kill site in the southern plains. Known as the Certain Site by archaeologists, there are an estimated 800 bison remains and bones on the property. We’d never seen anything like it and were fascinated by Burl’s story.
