The Sheaves family has lived and farmed at Cuckoo Down Farm since 1959\. We are John and Becky Sheaves and have been running a campsite here now for six years, with help from our children\. The SiteHere, you really can chill out in peace and quiet\. We have three yurts and two luxury safari tent in a six\-acre meadow\. We allow small campfires in the evenings and on clear nights we have amazing stars\. We are just four miles from the beautiful beaches of the World Heritage Coastline at Beer, Branscombe and Sidmouth\.Our farm has five fields and a three\-acre oak wood, with a pretty stream running through it\. Look out for swallows, foxes, rabbits, badgers, deer and owls\. We’re a working farm with a flock of Suffolk cross sheep, as well as two ponies for children to ride and you can collect eggs from our chickens too\.Accommodation We have two safari tents and three yurts to choose from\.Each has its own compost loo, kitchen, standpipe of drinking water, campfire and wood burning stove\. The safari tents have their own ensuite hot showers too\.All have wooden floors and are furnished to a clean, attractive and comfortable standard, checked regularly\. Our tents are all in the same six acre meadow, spaced at about 30\-40 yards apart from each other\.Our safari tents, Daisy and Poppy are ideal for visitors who would like more space and privacy than a yurt can offer\. They are five metres wide by 11 metres in length, with an additional 2\.5 metre deep verandah across the front\.The yurts are 18m diameter and have a double bed and two double sofa beds, as well as coffee table and storage chests\. They each have a woodburning stove to keep them warm\. Our yurts can accommodate four people or up to six with children\. We can provide travel cots and high chairs free of charge\. All our yurts, Clover, Bluebell and Buttercup are very similar and of the same standard\.Inside the safari tent, there are two separate bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with two single beds\. In the large living area there is also a kingsized sofa bed, dining table and chairs, woodburning stove and kitchen area\. There is an ensuite hot shower in each, too\. Safari tents can accommodate up to six people\. Nearby we have a lovely gastro pub called The Golden Lion by the River Otter\. We love The Jack in the Green, Restaurant Magazine’s 52nd best place to eat in the whole of the UK\. We also recommend The Holt in Honiton \(six miles away\) voted the South West’s top dining pub\. The stunning Combe House Hotel has fantastic food in a beautiful Elizabethan manor house\. Serious foodies might like to travel slightly further afield to visit Mark Hix’s Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis \(45 mins\)\.Have fun days out: Explore the adventure gardens and bushcraft courses at Escot House, the stunning grounds and children’s play areas of Bicton Park, mountain biking on Haldon Hill and swing through the trees at Go Ape\. Or there’s the kids’ favourite Crealy Adventure Park\.Shop till you drop: We love the craft studios and shop \(and the café and bakery\) at Otterton Mill\. Honiton has many antique and book shops, as does the pretty and ancient port of Topsham\.Explore nature: spot rare birds on the RSPB’s reserve on the Exe Estuary, ride horses across Woodbury Common, try sailing, surfing and sea\-kayaking at our wonderful coast\. We’re close to both Dartmoor and Exmoor for walking, biking and getting away from it all\.Visit stunning places: We’re close to the National Trust’s historic Killerton House and the charming A La Ronde\.
