It's literally just a few feet from Antietam battlefield. The visitor center is visible from where I set up. It also abuts the National Cemetery. This is as close to hallowed ground as possible. The site is grassy and open. A bit of nearby commercial uses, but not an issue at all. Shepherdstown is nearby for a beer in the Rathskeller pub at the Bavarian Inn. I took a quick trip to Hagerstown for some outlet shopping. 15 minutes from Aldi and Walmart. These businesses are well maintained so not a problem for me. The location in Sharpsburg is exceptional. Mere feet from the Antietam battlefield and within sight of the new visitor's center. It also abuts the Antietam National Cemetery. I loved it. I visited the battlefield, had a beer at the Rathskeller pub at the Bavarian Inn, and was able to do a bit of shopping at the outlet in Hagerstown. A great location and a wonderful stay. I enjoyed it far more than a state campground.
