All service pitches are hard standing\. Rock pegs required\.More DetailsOur lovely campsite is just 100m from the lakeside and a five\-minute walk from the Victorian town of Bowness in Cumbria\. In the town you will find many visitor\-friendly shops, activities, pubs and restaurants\. There are many opportunities to enjoy Windermere from the water, from launches and steamers to wind surfing and powerboating\. At Ferry Nab, close to the campsite, you can take the Mallard chain ferry across Windermere to Ferry House on the western shore and even more glorious walking country\. A ferry has been operating on this route for over 500 years\. In the summer a minibus can take you on to author Beatrix Potter's former farmhouse home at Hill Top, which is now managed by the National Trust\. The pretty village of Hawkshead is car\-free and home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery\. Coniston Water is another lake worth a visit, a little further to the west\. The Steam Yacht Gondola is a beautifully\-restored Victorian yacht that sails around Coniston and is also cared for by the National Trust, as is much of the surrounding countryside\. You can disembark from the yacht at Brantwood, former home to the Victorian writer and art critic John Ruskin, among others\. At the southern end of Windermere, in the picturesque Leven Valley, is the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway, which runs steam and diesel trains, the Lakes Aquarium and the Lakeland Motor Museum with more than 30,000 exhibits covering more than 100 years of motoring\. The Motor Museum has detailed replicas of several Bluebird record\-breaking cars and boats\. The town of Windermere is to the north of our campsite and you can hire bikes at the station to follow one of the many cycle trails that wind round this beautiful part of the country\. The Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole has exhibitions to show you more about the Lake District National Park as well as having lovely gardens and an adventure playground\. It hosts events from geocaching to raft building\. The town of Kendal is to the east\. Here you will find the Abbot Hall Art Gallery, the Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry and the Kendal Museum\.
