Going north of Florence has a scenic rocky coastline, Sea Lion Caves, Heceta Head lighthouse and trails; Devil's Elbow park, Cape Perpetua with Thor's Well, Yaquina Head is at Newport with a great visitor center, lighthouse, birds\. Going south, you don't see as much ocean from the road until you go a ways, but Shore Acres State Park is nice near Charleston, though off the beaten path a ways\-\-or Bastendorff Beach County Park\. Also south, near Reedsport is an elk viewing area\. About 30 miles southwest is Sweet Creek which is a nice stroll along a creek for a mile, a popular place\.
