This was all flue cured tobacco farm fields at one time when tobacco was the cash crop in this area of the country\. The small pond beside our house was dug by my grandfather for irrigating tobacco beds until the plants were big enough to be transplanted in the fields\. I have harvested tobacco as a young man on this very land before I had our house circa 1920 moved to the backside of the field and spent 2 years remodeling it while Phyllis, my wife finished her teachers degree at UNCW\. I later moved a tobacco barn on the other side of the pond to save it from being burned down\. For years It was used as a wood working shop and horse barn with pasture being on both sides of our long driveway lined with Bradford Pear trees\. The trees have been ravaged and thinned out from hurricanes & storms through the years but still put on a little show in the spring and fall\. We are only 30\-45 minutes away from the ocean, Lake Waccamaw, and White Lake\. The Waccamaw River flows through the Green swamp all the way to the intercostal waterway\. A 3 day trip I took as a young man that I will always remember\.
