A selection of accommodation to meet most needs is only the beginning of what Ashworth can offer groups and the choice is yours\.We have a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities which are mostly overseen by professional instructors and a climbing tower begging to be used\. \.Free Wifi access is available to campers as is an overhead projector in the indoor accomodation We regret that we no longer take Public/Family Camping at Ashworth Valley Scout Camp\. The Site is now only available to organisations with a Child Protection Policy, which incorporates the vetting of all Adults\.Unfortunately we DO NOT allow dogs \(except Guide Dogs etc\) to accompany campers or visitors\.About Ashworth ValleyOpen all year round, Ashworth Valley Scout Campsite is set in 48 acres of beautiful countryside, including a wooded river valley\. The site has three camping fields and two modern accommodation buildings; the Janet Cotton Pack Holiday Centre and the Ranch House, with a Large Covered Area available as a wet weather shelter\.Facilities include: ·Camping sites for Patrol or Troop camps ·Piped water to all buildings and fields ·Toilet and washing facilities in buildings and on camping fields with hot water and showers ·Refuse points ·Tuck Shop ·Small Adventure playground ·Nature Trail ·Campfire Circle ·Wood Pile ·Outdoor Chapel ·Backwoods Area The site, once part of the Earl of Egerton's estate, was purchased in 1944 by Rochdale and Heywood Scout Districts\. The official opening was performed by Sir Percy Everitt, then Deputy Chief scout\. The Tuck ShopOnce the stables, situated in the main farm building, the Tuck Shop is stocked with ample supplies of sweets, drinks, and special Ashworth Valley souvenirs\. The shop is manned by Camp Staff, who are happy to assist you in any way\. Camp basics like matches, washing\-up liquid, scouring pads and T\-towels are also on sale at the Tuck Shop\. Opening times are displayed in the shop window\. Other times are by arrangement\. The ValleyThe Campsite has immediate access to the wooded Valley below\. Although camping is not permitted in the Valley itself, the stream and flood plain are excellent for playing games or just relaxing\. By night, the Valley becomes a great setting for night hikes and adventure games\. This is also the perfect time to see the local wildlife\. The camp team will advise on safety in the valley\.All we ask, is that visitors keep the Valley clean and tidy, for everyone AccomodationThere are two accommodation buildings here at Ashworth Valley Scout Campsite\.The Janet Cotton Pack Holiday Centre is the biggest of the two accommodation buildings at Ashworth Valley\. The centre has two dormitories \(Dorm 1 and 2 on the plan above\), each sleeping 12 in bunk beds and three smaller bedrooms \(Dorm 3,4 and 5\) sleeping 4 in each\. Toilets and showers accompany the building along with a drying room located in the entrance hall\. The kitchen is fully equipped to provide for 36 people, with utensils\. A fixed ceiling projector is available in the main hall, please contact us before hand\. The Ranch House was the original accommodation building at the Campsite\. Once the wooden hut had a veranda that looked out over the camping field\. The original building was destroyed by fire and now a newer building has been built in its place\.The building is heated by a large open fire and consists of a main hall, that can sleep approximately 20 people on the floor with mattresses provided, and two small 'leader' bedrooms \(Dorm 1 and 2 on the plan above\) that sleep 2 people each\. The building also has a toilet and a basin\. The kitchen is equipped with its own utensils and is fitted with a catering size cooker, fridge and freezer, water boiler,immersion heater\. whilst room heating is by a wood burner in the main hall\. The hall has a ceiling projector installed please contact us before hand\.On Site ActivitiesAshworth Valley Scout Campsite provides a host of Activities to meet all needs and all the activities are on site\. We have an Adventure Playground for Beavers and Cubs \(Under 11 years, under supervision\)\. This activity is FREE of charge We also supply Grass Sledging to all our visitors\. For a hire charge of £2\.50 per hour, these sledges provide an 'programme\-filler' activity and are great fun too\! We have recently added Pedal Carts at £7\.00 per hour, Orienteering \(2 variations\) at 10p per sheet\. A Scout Challenge Sheet \(10p\) can also be purchased\. Beaver, Leaf and Bug Hunt, sheets can be purchased at 10p each for those wishing to add to their programme content\. A Backwoods Area, Nature Trail as well as Pioneering Equipment including ideas are all available at Normal Camp/Visitors fees\. The Out Door Games Pack is available for hire at £5\.00 per day Our Bouldering Wall is available for hire at £12\.00 per hour ALL THE ABOVE ACTIVITIES ARE SUPERVISED BY YOUR OWN LEADERS Our adventurous activities include a Climbing and Abseiling Tower with the additional option of a Jacob's Ladder Climb, Zip Line Shooting, Archery Ranges as well as a Low Level Rope Course\. DirectionsFrom M62 Junc\.19: Follow A6046 to Heywood town centre traffic lights, after the lights turn onto Bamford Road, at the T\-Junction turn left onto B6222, the first right onto Ashworth Road\.From M65 Junc\. 8: Take A56 towards Haslingden then A680 towards Rochdale\. Turn right immediately after Ashworth Moor Reservoir onto Ashworth Road\.From Bury and Rochdale:Follow B6222 turning onto Ashworth Road at Simpson Clough\. Note: The Camp Site is signposted on B6222, however it isn't on A680Getting to Ashworth Valley\.\.\.By Bus:The 469 service runs between Bury and Rochdale bus stations at 30 minute intervals\. Alight at Simpson Clough and follow Ashworth Road for approximately one mile to the Campsite\.By Train and Metrolink:Trains stop at Rochdale station on the Trans Pennine rail link between Manchester Victoria and Leeds\. The 469 bus will need to be boarded from Rochdale Bus Station to the Campsite\.The Metrolink runs between Manchester Victoria and Bury Interchange, where the 469 bus can be boarded to Simpson Clough\.
